She stares at him for a long time, motionless, as if she were a statue that had been placed there and had gone through the ages without experiencing any change. She does not even seem to be moving her arms or legs to stay afloat, but this is a detail he barely notices.

She finally starts moving towards him, without ever stopping to sing or looking away from him. He cannot take his eyes away from her, either. In fact, he cannot do anything, hypnotised by the song she is singing to him - for him.

Deep inside, he knows he should turn away and run, that something is wrong and that the mesmerising creature now swimming towards him could hurt him - or worse. But the music is muffling those thoughts and he finds himself unable to turn around and run away.

In fact, he can only move forward.

He takes one step into the water.
